Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. - Henry Ford
Trotting with Tots, my third fourth fifth child.
In March of 2014, we moved here from the good ol' Midwest. With all our remaining belongings in a U-haul driven by my extremely patient husband, and a few random toys and boxes in our topless Jeep (per the request of my then 1.5 year old son), we trucked along 825 miles of sketchy highway until we reached the beautiful city of Austin, Texas.
Upon our arrival, my husband was immediately planted at his new start-up desk, which understandably left very little time for adventures Monday-Saturday. So what was I to do? I'd left my job, my parents and a city full of college friends. I knew nothing about Austin other than the small snippets I had been exposed to on random trips here for work-related events. And to be honest, most of that time was spent on 6th Street--life was a bit different now.
What better way to explore this amazing city than by two callused feet and 3 jogging stroller wheels? Voila! Trotting with Tots was born in May of 2014. And thank goodness for it, too. This group has kept me sane (or as sane as one can be with 2 kids under the age of 4), acted as my AA (athletes anonymous--because you all know I am not prepared to give up wine or Captain Morgan), my consultants on pediatric issues when doc is just too busy with flu season, and a kicka** network of amazing women who like to sweat & swear. It is so nice to interact with humans who speak more than the lyrics of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (I'm singing it as I type it out, naturally), allow and encourage release of stress, and are open to talk about anything from boogers to vomit to feces without batting an eye. (Today, for example, twooping was invented. Both Lisa and I's children negotiated a break during their supposed naptime to poop. Hence, two poopers pooping at the same time=twooping.) In addition to my selfish reasons for loving this group, it gives our kiddos instant friendships (or frienemies if they're being brats) + much needed outdoor time sans the TV and 4 all-encompassing walls.
Since the inception of Trotting with Tots, we now have over 43 active (pun intended) members, which means we also have over 43 playful mini-members. We have most certainly had our difficult days as well as our productive ones, but when all is said and done, I couldn't be more grateful for the diverse, dedicated and driven group.
The intention for this blog is to share favorite running routes, hilarious (and often humiliating) stories, products we love, and highlight members that make this group what it is---fun! Follow us and/or join us as we build this 'baby' and burn some calories.
LISA W: ex Arizonian hockey player (does Arizona even have ice?), psychs herself out every time she gets close to breaking a 9 min mile, Mom to 2 curly-headed squirts + a non-bias food-loving dog, Tonks... wifey to her college love, Timothy, Lego fanatic. And can't put up any guests in her spare bedroom since it has turned into JoAnn fabrics.
IRADIS J Native Floridian, plays the flute like a champ (she is the beauty behind our National Anthem on race day), Mom to THREE kiddos under 4 years of age (and she does it with ease, people), met her hubs in a coffee shop in the Sunshine state, avid reader and has the most gentle soul of anyone you'll ever meet.
DANIELLE D Midwesterner at heart (Go Royals!), lover of all things pink and green (you should see her daughter's rooms), eats sweet peppers like they're candy, had two completely natural childbirths (hint: she has superhuman powers), breastfeeding advocate, Mizzou grad (she and Loren actually attended the exact same years, but did not know one another), loves to quilt and does not own an inside voice.
LOREN MCentral IL born and raised attempting every sport possible. Mom to 2 polar opposite kiddos and wife to a man she met on an airplane, her magic Mike. Throw in a white lab with too many allergies to count and you have yourself a fine fam. Loves pickles, green olives and is a (temporary?) vegan. Took up running in order to eat french fries on a regular basis (they're vegan, right?). Mizzou grad. Skincare junkie and waxing Nazi. The Queen of random encounters. To all the TWT members: Don't hate, just Belieb ;)
