It's Featured Member Friday! Each month, we feature one of our magnificent members so you can get to know our crazy crew. How do we decide who to feature? With a super fair draw out of a hat by the closest toddler in tow.
When it's cold outside (or at least Texas-style cold) and you spy a long-legged beauty wearing shorts while the rest of us are bundled up, you've probably caught a glimpse of Liz C (aka Legs for Days Liz). Her daughter Katherine (2.5) and husband Adam keep her busy, but she also works part time as the Administrative Director for the California Native Grasslands Association (say that 3 times fast). While this isn't quite her dream job of being a goat, vegetable, and berry farmer, she likes learning about the prairies in Texas. A recent transplant to Austin, Liz's heart lies in the Sierra mountains in California, where her daughter "hiked" the Pacific Crest Trail at 4 weeks old, and Liz loved to do solo 10+ mile trail runs in June. Now that she's a Texan, she hopes her daughter will still develop a love for those mountain paths, and is training her for the trails by running with Trotting with Tots. So far their favorite spot to run then play is anywhere with a slide and stairs. While we call her Leggy Liz, her self-given nickname would be "Angry Old Person," though we have yet to see anything but smiles from this Mama. She would be more likely to show that AOP side, though, if her two dogs (who often accompany her on runs with the stroller) fulfilled her biggest running fear of tangling her up and causing her to wipe out and crash the stroller. Luckily her pooches have proven to be cooperative so far, and the BOB Ironman she runs with (and found cheap on craigslist) has stayed upright. Liz loves to run along Brushy Creek, and along the San Gabriel in Georgetown. If she's stroller-free, she likes to hit the trails in Walnut Creek Park. Her proudest accomplishment as a runner was running a 20-mile route through the San Francisco Bay Area. It took her on roads and trails, through parks and over one fence that lined some private property (whoops!). She doesn't listen to music while she runs, preferring to hear the sounds around her. However, she sometimes finds herself humming one of the many Daniel Tiger tunes that Katherine enjoys. After a long run, you can find Liz chowing down on scrambled eggs, toast, veggies, and a mocha latte. With whipped cream. And a brownie with ice cream and more whipped cream. She says she runs so she can relieve stress and back pain, as well as eat more than she should, including some of the yummy canned goods she makes with her husband. Look for Liz at our next run and say hi!
